Bletchingly Stakes 2016 race preview

29 July 2016 10:41 AM

Caulfield hosts the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes this Saturday. The track is currently rated a soft 5 with the rail in its True position for the entire circuit. Expect that reading to improve before they jump with sunshine predicted. The better runners from this race are usually working towards bigger black type races later in the Spring and will look to move on to the Memsie Stakes in August within their next one or two runs.

Mahuta is one of two Darren Weir runners in the race. Was ever consistent in his first career preparation landing six wins straight after blinkers went on. Has raced twice below 1400m for a second and a forth at the start of his preparation, finishing two to three lenghts behind the respective winners at country tracks. He's two from two at Caulfield and has improved alot since then. One of the main chances.

Fast'N'Rocking got too far back in a race that didn't suit last start. Put in a great performance the run before that when storming home in the Goodwood after jumping from a wide gate. Is in this if he can settle well with cover from barrier 11.

Runway Star has a cracking first-up record winning four from six when resuming. Won a stakes race first-up last preparation and proved competitive throughout her winter campaign against good horses. Comes off a solid trial and from a respected stable in Adelaide. Go well.

Lord Of The Sky was good first-up in the Sir John Monash. Finished a nose behind Chautauqua in last year's TJ Smith over 1200m so can win if he is near his best.

Odyssey Moon. Runs have been solid this preparation including a win against older horses two starts back. Strong run over 1200m carrying 58.5kg last start, finishing a neck away third in front of some handy three-year-olds. Has claims.

Thermal Current was okay in the Monash last start and won well the start before that. Tougher contest here but not without his chances.

Smokin' Joey won this race last year off a similar break for his only first-up career win. Didn't get hot last campaign but he does like Caulfied.

Charmed Harmony comes off a freshen after showing great form over the Caulfield 1400m to finish runner-up to Black Heart Bart. Then won his next start. Both starts running on the pace. Proven over the 1200m and has finished in the top two six times from nine starts at the track. Can't dismiss.

Taddei Tondo was good last start at Rosehill. Mixed his form before that. Straight Six finish at Flemington rates him with some hope here. Not hopeless.

Tudor made a little ground coming from the back in an on-pace suited race in the Monash. Won a stakes race last preparation over 1400m and finished 1.3 lengths behind Reldas last Spring over 1200m.

Magnapal might find this a bit short and carries a bit more weight than he is used to here under weight-for-age conditions.

1st Lord Of The Sky ticks all the boxes here. Solid start when resuming, great second-up record and expect conditions to suit.

2nd Mahuta

3rd Charmed Harmony
