Monash Stakes 2017 race preview

13 July 2017 15:45 PM

Caulfield hosts the Group 3 Monash Stakes on Saturday. Run under weight-for-age conditions the ten horse field will race over 1100m with the rail out 1100m for the entire circuit. The short-courses at Caulfield are some of the fairest in the country. Runners jump into the long side straight and have only a single turn to negotiate on the course. Caulfield is currently rated a Good 4 and shouldn't change much with a mere 4mm expected before the jump at 3.30pm.

Horse Racing AnalysisKey Runners

#7 Supido - odds fluctuations 3pm 15/7 2.15 unchanged

Ticks two key boxes here. First-up and 1100m form is outstanding. Only failure fresh was in the Group 1 Lightning last prep. Gets his favoured dry track. Strong claims.

Betting odds Caulfield

#6 Chocolate Holic odds fluctuations 3pm 15/7 4.80 unchanged

Resumes with a good first-up record. Comes off a strong summer campaign in Perth where he was very competitive against quality rivals. Genuine contender.

#1 Lord Of The Sky odds fluctuations 3pm 15/7 5.50 unchanged

Ran two lengths fourth behind Wild Rain resuming in this race last year. Well suited with good early speed from barrier 1. Trialled well and has won fresh. Chance.

#5 Murt The Flirt odds fluctuations 3pm 15/7 14 unchanged

Raced well in his previous preparation. Weight-for-age is a question mark here but hasn't missed a place first-up. Consider.

#10 O'malley odds fluctuations 3pm 15/7 - 16, 15

Comes off a 35 day freshen where he was good enough in his three runs prior. Well suited by the early pace in the race. Good fresh record. Contender.

#4 Daytona Grey odds fluctuations 3pm 15/7 16 unchanged

Adelaide horse who was solid first-up at Morphettville. Usually competitive second-up. In the mix.

Off the others.....
