Winter Stakes 2015 at Rosehill Gardens
17 July 2015 16:10 PM
Rosehill Race 7 tomorrow is the Winter Stakes, one of two Listed racing events across the country this Saturday, and runs over 1400m. With rain falling steadily over the past 24 hours and expected to continue through to the last race tomorrow, we can safely assume the track will deteriorate further from its current Heavy 9 rating.
Best Tote markets have You'll Never currently as $3.80 favourite. The Chris Waller trained horse has flourished on a wet Rosehill track in each of his four runs this preparation, with two wins and two thirds and he's right in this tomorrow.
Two Blue is currently the $4.20 fixed odds favourite with bookies. She's also loving the wet Rosehill tracks with three strong recent performances in these conditions. Drawn well to lead all the way in the race.
Haussmann is shorter than his $15 starting price when he won the Listed Civic Stakes here a few weeks ago on a heavy Rosehill track. He meets Two Blue 2 kg worse this time around but probably has a bit more improvement in him. Another win wouldn't surprise.
The Peter Moody trained Noela's Choice steps up a bit in grade and is back in distance in this race. Proven to love the heavy going with 2 wins and 2 places from 4 starts. Not an easy task but not without a chance.
A big late finish in the Civic Stakes has put See The World right in the market here. Loves wet tracks and has got almost half his career wins at Rosehill. Hasn't won past 1300m but that late burst last start suggests he can change all that in this race.
Liberty's Choice is a hard one to recommend on account of his single win from 19 career starts. His 12 placings however underline his potential. He's first-up tomorrow on a bog track and hasn't placed from two starts in rain affected going.
Rugged Cross can be forgiven after getting back from a wide barrier last start in the Civic. Has good heavy track form but not sure barrier one will do him any favours in the running. The in-form Brenton Avdulla to ride.
Of the others keep an eye on Canny Ballad currently fixed odds of $31. Proven on soft tracks and a third from two starts on the heavy. He's placed in Group 3 company over 1200m, is three wins, two seconds from 6 starts this distance and has drawn well to easily get a sit behind the early speedsters in the race. First-up last time ran on well over 1200m to finish two lengths from the Heart Testa in a Group 3 event.
I'll put Two Blue on top but I will also be backing Canny Ballad in the race, especially at the current odds of $31 . Haussmann in for third.
