Ipswich Cup 2016 race preview
17 June 2016 10:41 AM
The Winter Carnival continues in Brisbane with the show moving to Ipswich racecourse for the Ipswich Cup. The race is a Listed event run over 2150m with runners starting at the top of the home straight, running 400m to the finishing post and then completing another lap of the course. The track is currently rated a Good 4 and there is no rain predicted over the next two days.
Maurus hasn't raced since his strong performance in the G1 Doomben Cup when he looked like he might upset that lot half way down the straight only to finish 1.8 lengths fifth. Was strong and consistent in each of his three prior runs. Look for a strong showing again.
Dance Of Heroes didn't live up to expectations last start with 61kg on his back at Randwick in BM84 grade. Gets more suitable track conditions and significant weight relief here which puts him right in this race.
Puccini had excuses last start when he couldn't get clear at a key stage of the race. Ran well before that in the G3 Premier's Cup at Doomben when ridden positively. Mixing his form a bit this preparation. In this if he's mind is on the job.
Worthy Cause was good last week in the Wayne Wilson when 3 lengths fifth behind Hopfgarten. Ran 2.5 lengths fifth in last year's G1 Doomben Derby over 2200m so should get the distance at this level. Looks ready for this.
Iggy Pop. Not sure what to make of his last start flop when he seemed to tire in the home straight with a light weight and no obvious excuses. Was good in all three prior runs. Give another chance?
Jumbo Prince got too far back over the mile last start from a wide barrier. Three runs before that were good and looks as though he's ready for the extra distance. Placed twice from two runs this distance. Can figure.
Instrumentalist hasn't figured in previous runs at this level. Could sneak a place at best.
Nissile looks to be meeting a smarter lot here compared to past contests.
Can't take the others.
1st Dance Of Heroes gets suitable conditions here and expect him to improve significantly on his last run.
2nd Worthy Cause
3rd Jumbo Prince
